Both Microsoft personal digital assistant (PDA) Cortana and Apple’s Siri have been seen as the big competitors in the IT industry for the last year and have fiercely indulged in a bitter face off to allure the customers to their fold with their so called enhanced features. Now, Cortana seems to have an advantage as virtualization software maker Parallels has updated its software to go beyond the simple attribute of running Windows on your Mac. From Now, Mircosoft’s PDA Cortana will function as a stand-alone feature from the OS X port. At the present, the PDA has beat Siri by hitting on Apple’s desktop operating system.

It is well-known that Cortana can run well on a Mac with Windows 10 booted on supportive Mac using Bootcamp support for Windows 10 on OS X. Before Parallels new update Coherence Mode, it was not possible for Cortana to run inside the OS X environment, right together with OS X functions and apps. Coherence mode allows one to use Windows and Mac apps simultaneously without using two separate desktops or rebooting. Currently, Windows apps can be conveniently run within the OS X environment. Thanks to the view mode in Parallels Desktop 11 called ‘Coherence Mode’. With the new mode, Cortana will be able to run Windows apps within the OS X environment without forcing users to open Windows and Mac apps separately. Moreover, availability of Parallels Help for Cortana will allow users enjoy the features of Microsoft PDA on Mac.

Surprisingly, the use of Cortana in a virtualized environment may put a negative effect on battery life as it must run constantly in OS X in order to keep Cortana active. Moreover, there is a new Travel Mode which, for the time being, closes down resource intensive activities and manages them wittily. Furthermore, there are a number of new overall performance improvements within the updates that offer sharp improvement in start up and shut down times.

Parallels Desktop 11 for home and student users is available for purchase but upgraders can get it at a lower price tag. With subscription, you can have the Pro Edition for developers and power users with timely and instant access to beefier Mac hardware with additional capacity of 64GB of memory and 16 virtual CPUs. Now, Cortana’s availability would be unlimited to the Mac inside the Apple ecosystem.

Through Parallels Help for Cortana service or Parallels Support for Mac OS X, users can get rid of all the issues that prevent them from bringing the best out of their machines.
